Free Will Without Moral Responsibility

Picture
Freedom Without Responsibility was published in 1990 by Temple University Press. It rejects a variety of arguments in support of moral responsibility, argues that moral judgments are not threatened by denial of moral responsibility, and insists that free will can survive and flourish in a world devoid of moral responsibility.

The Natural Selection of Autonomy was published in 1998 by SUNY Press. It is part of the SUNY series in Philosophy and Biology, and it is an effort to fashion an account of free will that is biologically based, is not uniquely human, is distinct from moral responsibility, and treats human rationality as an enhancement rather than a condition of free will.

Restorative Free Will: Back to the Biological Base was published in 2015 by Lexington Books. Drawing on research in primatology, biology, psychology, and anthropology, Restorative Free Will  emphasizes a biological understanding of free will that views free will writ large in the adaptive behavior of many species. By exploring the essential need for both control and exploration, Restorative Free Will makes clear the insights as well as the errors of both libertarian and compatibilist accounts of free will.
